The UKMSA Foundation (UF) is an outreach program aimed to increase accessibility of medical school to school students and advise them on their applications.
Unfortunately for every aspiring doctor out there, medicine is a popular field and getting in is fiercely competitive. You will not only have to achieve the most stringent academic criteria, but you will also need to excel in a number of extracurricular disciplines, and on top of that eventually convince admissions officers that you are better than the other thousands applying. The trick is to start early, list all of the requirements for admission into medical school and think about how you can excel in those areas.
The problem with the above approach is that it’s difficult to know what you need without an example, without knowing what other people did to get into medical school. This is where we come in. We know exactly what students are going through when applying, so we would like to tell you about our experiences and share whatever advice you might need to make medical school as accessible to each and every one of you as possible.
Hence, we are now launching a Widening Participation Initiative in order to allow selected students the privilege of attending by entering a competition to win 1 of the 10 free tickets where you tell us what you hope to gain from the conference. This competition is open to all secondary school students.
Winning the competition is something to put on your CV and attending the conference will give you a very privileged perspective about what a medical career is like. You will also get the opportunity to meet other medical students, immerse yourself in student research and attend practical workshops as well as various lectures.
Please download and fill in the form below and send it to conference@ukmsa.org before April 29th 2012. Successful applicants will be notified on May 1st 2012.
We are also distributing free “Oxbridge Applicant’s Guide” to schools which would like a copy (http://www.oxbridgemedicine.co.uk/index.html). Another book on applying to medical school and how to make the most of it once you’re there will also be published later this year. We hope to make copies of this available to schools soon as well.
