Prize kindly sponsored by MDU

This year the UKMSA is running an exciting new competition in its search for the medical student of the year. The idea for hosting this prize stemmed from a similar award for junior doctors run by the BMJ Group. We feel that medical students are a vital and often under-appreciated part of the medical team and the purpose of this competition is to highlight the contributions of noteworthy medical students; some of whom have made great efforts to create improvements both within and outside the standard medical curriculum. We are privileged to have MDU sponsoring the award.

We are now inviting students to nominate themselves or one of their fellow colleagues. The judges will be looking for a student that has most notably contributed to medicine or healthcare, significantly impacted on the wellbeing of the wider community or inspired others through their outstanding dedication and innovation.

There are no restrictions on reasons for nominations but it would be expected that the candidate has gone above and beyond the expectations placed upon a medical student. It is also expected that the majority of the candidate’s highlighted contributions were made in 2011.

Note: Nominees must be a current medical student in the UK or clinician in a recognised teaching post at a medical school or affiliated NHS trust in the UK. Candidates that are nominated must be current UK medical students.

How do I nominate a colleague/myself?

  • If you are nominating someone else, you will need to supply your name and email address for contact purposes. However, this information will remain completely anonymous.
  • All students who have been nominated will have to accept their nomination to be eligible so it is important that their contact email address is also supplied.

How is the winner decided?

  • The results of the competition will be determined by an expert judging panel and the winner announced at the conference on Friday May 11th 2012
